CS2 Developers Prepare the First Operation
Signs indicate that the first Operation in CS2 is already in development. New findings in CS2 files, shared by data miner Thour, directly point to an upcoming Operation-style content update.
Mission points and new lines found
According to Thour, new “mission-points” strings have been added to the csgo_english localization file. These strings are not related to the current weekly missions, strongly suggesting they are part of Operation missions. This system has always been a key part of past CS operations.
Development of a new client and game coordinator
Thour also noted comments within the files mentioning work on a new CS2 client and a new game coordinator. One developer comment explains that old mission tokens are still being retained because the new infrastructure isn’t ready yet.
The developer’s note states that legacy mission tokens still need to be supported until the full release of the new CS2 client and game coordinator, confirming that there is a transition phase behind the scenes.

What does this mean for players?
All of this indicates that Valve isn’t just experimenting, but preparing a real infrastructure for Operations. It’s also important to remember that the last Operation in CS was Operation Riptide, which ran from September 21, 2021, to February 21, 2022. This means nearly five years have passed without a new Operation, making this potential CS2 release a long-awaited and highly anticipated one.
