S1mple on returning to Tier 1: “It’s a new chapter, and I want to compete at a high level again.”

Sniper Alexander ” s1mple ” Kostylev, representing BC.Game , gave an interview before his match against Legacy at IEM Krakow 2026 Stage 1. He discussed his feelings about returning to the tier-1 scene, his role in his new team, and his attitude toward pressure from the audience.

Returning to major tournaments and getting back into shape

Speaking about his return to a major international event, s1mple emphasized that he views the current stage as the beginning of a new chapter in his career and an opportunity to once again prove his level.

I want to perform well, like I did in previous tournaments like this. Of course, this is a new chapter for me. We’re currently trying to play as many events as possible. That’s the only way to get back into shape—playing against the best teams and practicing constantly.

According to the player, regular practice at top tournaments remains a key factor in returning to optimal individual form.

The role of a mentor and balance with personal play

Kostylev also touched on the topic of interacting with new teammates and his role within the team, noting that sometimes he has to take on the role of a mentor.

At some point, I become a mentor to young players. But I feel like my individual form is fine right now. Do I enjoy being a mentor? Sometimes yes, sometimes not.s1mple 

At the same time, s1mple added that in some situations it is important for him to concentrate exclusively on his own game and shooting.

Sometimes I need to focus on my aim and gameplay. But it’s always about fixing mistakes and improving teamwork. That’s the most important thing.s1mple 

Public pressure and attitude towards criticism

When asked about the constant attention and criticism from spectators, the sniper made it clear that he tries not to dwell on the external environment. He said this approach helps him maintain concentration in high-level matches.

I usually don’t listen to other people because they watch my playing and not the other way around.

IEM Krakow 2026 takes place from January 28 to February 8 in Krakow, Poland. During the event, 24 teams compete for a $1,000,000 prize pool and VRS points needed to qualify for future major events.
